Ideologically a Marxist–Leninist, his theories, military strategies, and political policies are collectively known as Maoism.

As the birthplace of Mao Zedong, the founder of the People’s Republic of China, Shaoshan was an important base during the Chinese Communist Revolution.

Zhang Yimou is one of most famous Chinese film director, producer, writer and actor, and former cinematographer.  He is wel known as the Chief director of opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Chief director of Enduring Memories of Hangzhou, as kown as pats of art performances for 2016 G20 Hangzhou summit..

Project introduction:

    “Enduring Memory of Shaoshan” is a highly customized performance theater for performing mainly by high-tech innovative means. Famous director Zhang Yimou leaded the core creative team, integrating with domestic top stage art teams, performing the history combined with Humanities of Shaoshan..

The performance content, stage form and architectural modeling of the theater are all based on the core idea of Director Zhang and tailored against the background of Shaoshan Red culture. The architectural modeling takes the glittering five stars as the design prototype, the radiance as the design idea, combined with the regional context and local customs, takes moso bamboo and rammed earth as building materials, and the ecological concept is friendly and harmonious with the natural environment. Taking the mountain as the scene, the light of a spark shines everywhere. It symbolizes that Shaoshan, welcomes guests from all over the world.

The stage art design is tailor-made by the dance beauty team directed by Zhang Yimou. The 30 meters, or 98.4 feet wide super scale stage provides the performance effect of super wide picture frame for the performance. The ultra cutting-edge performance form based on matrix art installation, light and shadow art performance, combined with the actors’ dance and dramatic performance, presents a “non narrative” performance chapter.

“Enduring Memory of Shaoshan” , extracts linear design elements from novel performance forms and emphasizes the consistency between architecture design and stage art performance forms. The customized design and thematic form enable the “Enduring Memory of Shaoshan” to form a complete cultural symbol, always flashing dazzling and moving brilliance, and arousing people’s memories of that era.

    The design of the front hall of the auditorium is adapted to the local climate of Shaoshan. The grey space, combined with the grid roof and bamboo system, constitutes an outdoor space with shading and natural ventilation. It can not only meet the functional requirements of audience waiting and leaving, but also greatly reduce the energy consumption of air conditioning, and realize the design concept of energy conservation, emission reduction and green ecology.

    The rammed earth curtain wall of the building uses the waste stone powder, stone slag and old construction waste (adobe brick) from the mine as the main raw materials, which can not only turn waste into treasure, but also reduce carbon emission.

   The five-star shaped metal grille on the roof provides a reliable building self shading system for the core theater. It can greatly reduce the impact of solar radiation on the theater, and reduce the service load of the air conditioning system in the theater area in summer. The green design concept of energy conservation and emission reduction is achieved.
