MALL OF CHINA · DONG FANG HIGHSTREET | JZFZ Architectural Design Co. Ltd | World Design Awards 2025

JZFZ Architectural Design Co. Ltd: Winner of World Design Awards 2025. MALL OF CHINA serves as a model for urban renewal through the iterative upgrading of Xi’an’s existing commercial assets. With a total construction area of 140,000㎡, the project has adopted a “Three-Year, Three-Phase” strategy for upgrading its commercial interface. Phase I, Dongfang Highstreet – Lifestyle Aesthetics Social Hub, was completed in 2024. Phase II (Sihai Mall) and Phase III (Wuzhou Avenue Commercial Street) are scheduled for completion between late 2025 and 2026. This progressive and organic development model fundamentally advances through three transitions—spatial reconstruction, content innovation, and urban empowerment—evolving traditional stock commerce from a site of consumption into a cultural interface for the city.

Community and connectivity form the central design themes of the public areas. Featuring a three-sided frontage and a southeast-facing lakeview, the design maximises natural views while ensuring excellent road access that ensures convenient circulation and drop-offs. The integration of green and pedestrian-friendly spaces, such as courtyards and boulevards, creates a serene atmosphere that invites end-users to dwell, contributing to their sense of wellbeing.

To encourage social interactions, al-fresco dining and open-air theatre add vibrancy and help transform workplace culture. Biophilic elements such as water features, designed for evaporative cooling, and sculptured gardens set within its gateway-shaped striking façade enhance the arrival experience, elevating the development’s identity. The building design leverages prevailing winds to promote natural ventilation, enhancing thermal comfort indoors and outdoors.

The office spaces located on the upper floors, raised above the vibrant podium level, are designated as formal work environments. The central core enables the building envelope to open up, maximising natural light and framing panoramic views.

Articulated vertical sun-shading elements, the design grounds itself in energy-efficient strategies. The design intent behind the building aligns with its function-visually dramatic yet rooted in environmentally-conscious philosophy. The Loft, an iconic building located at the northern end of the campus, offers a new and unique typology to its development. Envisioned to showcase the vibrancy and sophistication of contemporary Hyderabad. It offers various social experiences ranging from dining and retail, health and fitness to cultural and artistic spaces, creating a dynamic atmosphere for the community.
