GREENTOWN·LAKE SENSE | GMA ARCHITECTURAL & URBAN DESIGN | World Design Awards 2025

GMA ARCHITECTURAL & URBAN DESIGN: Winner of World Design Awards 2025. GREENTOWN·LAKE SENSE is located at 9 Guihu Road, Hongshan District, Wuhan, on the northern shore of South Lake, near the Second Ring Road. It is bordered by Guihu East Road to the east, Qianshui Bay Road to the north, and offers over 270 degrees of lakeview to the west and south. The architectural design of the entire project blends with the site’s unique characteristics. The layout follows the natural flow of the land, with water as the central element, guiding it into the park. The building volume shows a gradual rise from south to north, with spacious distances between the super high-rise buildings, while the low-rise villas are set with moderate spacing. Large green spaces and walkable rainproof corridors are incorporated throughout, creating a seamless blend of architecture and nature in the LAKE SENSE.

LAKE SENSE interprets the return home ritual through modern aesthetics, using the three grand entrances – East, West, and South – to create a narrative of quiet luxury. These entrances seamlessly blend the city’s hustle and bustle into the tranquility of nature. The East entrance features a 120-meter long landscape scroll, where the contrast between the winding dragon-like trees and strong pine trees creates a stunning visual effect. Above, a metal ceiling with flowing water-like curves mirrors the shimmering light, echoing the serene beauty of South Lake in the distance. The ceiling features a circular hollow design that lets in natural light, while also echoing the traditional “skylight” concept. It creates a poetic feel, where “the light and cloud shadows wander together.” To bring out the space’s incredible sense of luxury, the design team used Baida Green luxury stone mixed with gold aluminum accents. Combined with Starry Grey stone, they catch the light and give off a soft, refined shine, showing off the space’s opulence and elegance, while also adding a touch of timeless charm. As you enter the park, the winding corridors connect key spaces in the demonstration area, such as the Yuehua Pavilion, Liujin Pavilion, Mocha Garden, and the Guijia Lobby. Transparent metal hangings suspended from the eaves blur the boundaries between the interior and exterior. The interplay of solid and void in the design creates a rich, layered space, where the boundaries between inside and outside dissolve as you move through it. In terms of planning, the Yuehua Pavilion is elevated and stands independently, overlooking the water garden, while the Liujin Pavilion rises gracefully by the water. The facade design of both pavilions draws inspiration from traditional curtains, reinterpreted as hollowed-out metal components. The nearly 1,000-square-meter sunken water garden is centered around the Yuehua Pavilion, with two sunken courtyards – one large and one small – that connect all the functional areas of the underground clubhouse. Inspired by the traditional garden design technique of “borrowing views,” the clubhouse’s interior and exterior interfaces feature large, frameless floor-to-ceiling windows, bringing the scenery inside and dissolving the boundaries between indoors and outdoors. The rainproof corridors and the elevated themed space are integrated into the design to link the path home with the neighborhood interaction spaces. As Green Town’s first Yuehua series project in Wuhan, the high-rise building facade simplifies design by eliminating excess, removing clutter, and embracing a minimalist approach. Following international aesthetic trends, the project creates a new generation of “frameless curved screens.” The quality and value reflected in this design fully showcase the design team’s understanding of architectural aesthetics. The high-rise facade uses lots of curves and large glass panels to reflect the beauty of the lake. The curved corner glass gives a 270° view of the lake without any barriers. The “feather-like” tower crown on top is light and smooth, creating a unique architectural shape that gives the lakeside cityscape a fresh look.

GMA Philosophy

Architecture is the voice of the city, the birth of a building creates the space of the city, defines the spirit of the place, records the changes of the environment, and carries people’s memories. Architecture has a spiritual dimension that transcends time and space and materiality.

Designers are the ones who project the ideal kingdom of architecture into reality, and in the hands of designers, architecture becomes the place where everything grows and where all people live. In this sense, the designer has a role similar to that of a creator, and carries the same heavy ideals and responsibilities. It is this ideal and responsibility that makes GMA Greentown Metropolis always maintain its devotion and perseverance to design, we respect each individual’s imagination of the ideal place, we respect the pursuit of the spiritual dimension of architecture, we respect the diversity and differences of the region, and we respect the most ordinary spatial touches. It is a social production that integrates a large amount of resources in the process of creation. In this regard, it is necessary to respond to the all-round needs of developers, users and the public with the most prudent attitude and the most professional work, and to trace the deep-seated expectations behind the needs of all parties. At the same time, the success of a project can never be achieved by the designer alone, but the service and cooperation with the owner, the professional teams and even the future users is the only way for a building to be successful. In a strong atmosphere of innovation and research, GMA Greentown will continue to pursue more professional and excellent professional standards and more exquisite and perfect architectural presentations with the above beliefs, respect for the city, devotion to design, and responsibility to the society.
