The flow of light | ID.CO | World Design Awards 2025
ID.CO: Winner of World Design Awards 2025. This exhibition design is inspired by Long Island’s coastal landscape, shaped by the Atlantic Ocean and its vibrant ecosystems. Water serves as a central motif, symbolizing both a boundary and a life-giving force—just as time defines life while enriching it with purpose. The design bridges Long Island’s ecological heritage with NYU Langone Health’s dedication to compassionate care, fostering an environment of healing, contemplation, and renewal.

At its core is a sculptural installation capturing the frozen moment of splashing water, symbolizing vitality, resilience, and the continuity of life. The central column, reminiscent of a DNA double helix, embodies growth and transformation. Droplets morphing into butterflies evoke the beauty of metamorphosis, suggesting healing, transcendence, and renewal.
The inclusion of native Long Island butterflies, such as the Monarch and Red-Spotted Purple, highlights the region’s commitment to ecological preservation and wellness. Their presence signifies harmony between nature and humanity, while also celebrating the community’s efforts to nurture natural habitats through sustainable practices. This design creates an immersive and uplifting experience, encouraging visitors to confront life’s challenges with resilience and grace. It celebrates the interplay between nature, time, and healing—an ongoing cycle of growth and renewal.
