Eclipsed Boundaries | DASHU CONSTRUCTION | World Design Awards 2025
DASHU CONSTRUCTION: Winner of World Design Awards 2025. Disengaging from the oppressive shackles of superfluous ornamentation, we anchor our practice in human-centric scales to reconstruct architecture’s primal logic. By stripping away ostentatious veneers, we first recalibrate spatial functionality and behavioral rhythms, then awaken the narrative potential of raw structures—allowing rugged beams and columns to waltz with shifting sunlight, while inhabitants’ emotions flow freely to the cadence of spatial poetry. Walls dissolve into restrained thresholds of privacy, where strategically framed apertures act as invisible threads, weaving delicate bonds of proximity and warmth among family members.

Basement Level
Excavating the oppressive barriers above the lightwell, we carved a double-height atrium to channel cascading daylight, dispelling the subterranean gloom. Above the tearoom, an arched vault engages in a tensile dialogue with raw structural columns. Plain walls serve as rice paper, upon which sunlight etches ink-wash vignettes that evolve with the sun’s passage—a meditative scroll of emptiness painted by dawn, noon, and dusk.
Mezzanine Level
The incense ceremony area floats like a crystalline island, its transparent form sparking a cross-dimensional conversation with the basement. A horizontal viewport beside the ceremonial seat frames fragmented moments—a sleeve brushing past, muffled footsteps—transforming mundane movements into fleeting cinematic vignettes.
Ground Floor
Lifting the living room ceiling, we slit open a luminous fissure. Within this vertical sightline, dangling toes, the phantom arc of a leaping cat, and sunbeam trails become three-dimensional verses suspended in time’s anthology.
Second Floor
A vertical window dissects the corridor wall, layering distant mountains with built-in bookshelves into a perspectival panorama. In the elevated reading nook of the daughter’s room, a corrugated glass viewtube stages ever-changing scenes—sipping tea amidst April showers or reading by December’s snowfall.
Third Floor
A modest aperture in the corridor extrudes a fragment of desk, its edges gilded by light piercing through—translating claustrophobia into silent companionship. Between the study and bedroom, a horizontal viewport rewrites spatial narratives with posture: bowed heads inhabit solitary universes, while lifted gazes intersect like colliding constellations.
