Surbana Jurong Consultants Pte Ltd: Winner of World Design Awards 2025. Sky Residence @ Dawson is part of Singapore’s Housing Development Board’s Selective En Bloc Redevelopment Programme to rejuvenate aging estates with modern housing solutions and optimize land use. This project encapsulates the location’s historical essence while integrating the demands of today’s super high-density living. The site is where HDB’s 1^st Satellite Town Centre once stood in 1960s. The design celebrates this heritage by preserving the iconic 1960s market, conserving 6 mature Angsana trees, and recreating the former town square as a new circular plaza. This facilitates community interactions amidst a blend of history and contemporary living.

An 800 metre long “Green Ribbon” (elevated sky terrace in the form of a barrier free ramp), connects the ground to the roof gardens for inclusive usage by the disabled and users of all ages. Here, the community bonds and enjoys an educational narrative of the site’s historical context through strategically placed heritage markers. Vivid nostalgic graphics on first-storey walls, aids wayfinding and provide reminiscence for the elderly and those with dementia. Atop the eight tower blocks strings a sky terrace that gave back 1.7ha additional green to community to enjoy and promotes biodiversity. A public gallery showcased the residents’ paraphernalia for the young to connect to their parents’ and grandparents’ past and hopefully, to inculcate an appreciation of what they have now and encourage them to work for a better future.

Sky Residence @ Dawson epitomizes one of its kind innovative public housing that respects heritage, enhances sustainability, and delivers public equity hitherto unprecedented.
