Phoenix Mansion, Suzhou | GREENTOWN CHINA HOLDINGS LIMITED | World Design Awards 2025

GREENTOWN CHINA HOLDINGS LIMITED: Winner of World Design Awards 2025. The project is located at the intersection of Jinji Lake Avenue and Xinghai Street in Suzhou Industrial Park, embraced by water on three sides and endowed with exceptional natural landscape resources. The masterplan emphasizes “scenic views” and “harmonious integration,” seamlessly weaving the lake landscape into everyday community life. Through a thoughtfully configured layout, the development maximizes lake views for the residences, forming three distinct residential clusters—high-rises, mid-rises, and courtyard villas—all enjoying unobstructed views of the lake.

A continuous greenbelt is created along the waterfront, integrating with the renovated Huangtiandang Riverside Park to form a landscape park exclusive to the community. The park incorporates a variety of lifestyle amenities—such as a boat dock, a camping area, a pet activity zone, lotus ponds, pavilions, sculptures, and fitness spaces—thoughtfully designed to enrich the life of future residents.

The community’s main entrance adopts a contemporary architectural language, featuring an 85-meter-long ceremonial canopy paired with landscape walls. Its roof draws inspiration from Suzhou’s traditional curved rooftops, reinterpreted through modern design to create a shaded transitional space animated by dynamic light and shadow, enhancing the entrance’s visual identity. The roofline extends indoors, creating a continuous spatial experience.

The landscape design references classical Suzhou gardens, utilizing subtle elevation changes to craft cascading water features, flowerbeds, and terraces, shaping a meandering garden path that reveals varied scenes at each step. Alleyways within the residential clusters evoke the scale of Suzhou’s traditional lanes, fostering a tranquil and intimate living atmosphere. The facades of the courtyard villas are rendered in a refined palette of grey and gold. Traditional architectural elements, such as overhanging eaves and hip-and-gable roofs are reinterpreted through simplified, modern forms, embodying a minimalist yet elegant Eastern aesthetic.
