Bustling Alleyways | China Southwest Architectural Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd. | International Residential Architecture Awards 2025
China Southwest Architectural Design & Research Institute Co., Ltd.: Winner of International Residential Architecture Awards 2025. The land is located in the Lujiaqiao area of Jinniu District, north of the urban central axis of Chengdu, and is an important urban village renovation area in Chengdu. With Lujiaqiao Station on Metro Line 5 as the core, the area plans to create a one-stop living settlement with park TOD as the link, integrating various functions such as commercial, residential, and educational.

The design team deeply explores local cultural elements and regional characteristics, integrates architectural design with community building, and proposes five design strategies to create a model of Sichuan’s good houses that combine Sichuan charm, fireworks, and low-carbon health.
Analyze the travel and return routes based on the station as the core. The entrance and exit of the street interface create a dynamic spatial effect, guiding more outdoor activities and echoing the mild climate and outdoor loving personality of Chengdu people.
2. Shape with wind
Following the dominant wind direction in Chengdu, point layout provides better ventilation than plate layout.
3. Shape with scenery
The urban interface will be withdrawn and opened to parks, forming a five level green social space. The street facing interface is divided into village, block, and city scales from bottom to top, forming a rich and atmospheric urban image when viewed up close.
4. Shape by numbers
From design concept to module determination, and then to module application (overall plan, layout, construction, modeling), achieve maximum modular design and industrial construction in all aspects.
Chengdu has poor sunshine conditions. How to maximize the use of sunlight is more important than simply emphasizing the south direction. Bedroom layouts with comfortable views should face south, east, and west to maximize the use of sunlight resources.
Conclusion
The design is based on the residential attributes of “good houses” and extends to the creation of age friendly communities. Through the exploration of regional climate and traditional culture, as well as the extraction of TOD land features, we strive to create high-quality residential areas that are livable and suitable for business. Our vision for the future of “good houses” is not limited to comfortable and beautiful model rooms, but also includes fragrant soil, warm sunshine, gentle breeze, the bright moon of the city, and the warm fireworks atmosphere of human relationships.
