HZS: Winner of World Design Awards 2024. Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base is the central business core of the future city that Shenzhen City strives to build. Rigorous spatial organization logic and grand overall urban image are planned under the “Super Cross” structure. As the only residential property, the project must meet the basic requirements of residential buildings to fully integrate the buildings into the overall public urban settlement, while maintaining its own identity. This requires it to transcend the constraints of single site, consolidate the overall vision of the city, emphasize the openness and participation of urban space, and establish a balance between commercial interests and public interests, so as to achieve a more idealized “Metro-scape” intention.

The project spans two plots with a height limit of 150 meters and 200 meters respectively, involving residence, commerce, community supporting facilities, kindergarten, nursery and other property forms. The design deeply studies the overall urban design of Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base, and opens up the connection lines, greening system and node space between the base and the surrounding land through connection at all levels, while appropriate additions and enhancements are also implemented. In this way, the project can be organically integrated into the surrounding urban environment, and become a necessary supplement to the overall spatial image of the Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base.

According to the plan, the largest building on the plot will be arranged along the middle of Shenwan Second Road, so as to strengthen the urban interface of Shenwan Second Road, retreat from the southeast and northeast corners of the plot, reduce the sense of pressure on the site perimeter and obtain valuable and open access. Thanks to this, the project will form a 45-degree angle urban public corridor with OPPO and TCL headquarters bases, and use a simple facade to integrate well into the urban environment and play a supporting role for the surrounding “urban giant structures”. 

The average plot ratio of Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base is 6+, so every inch of land should play its public property even if the degree is different. Even a residential project should provide as much open space as possible for the public and surrounding users. The design reserves a public pedestrian system interface on the second floor of the building, which is open 24 hours a day along with the rest of the plot. Through the creation of highly accessible multilevel public spaces and semi-private roof deck platforms, the project continues to enhance the quality of living, creating a highland park community adapted to the high quality of living in the future urban core area.

In terms of the design of residential units, architects cleverly arrange the units according to the different landscape resources of the city. The area of the units located below are smaller, and the area above are larger, and every house enjoys a view and plenty of daylight. Sharing social spaces are set up in the residential units, leaving room for a variety of potential operations in the future.
