Chongqing Jinfo Mountain Puxiang Hotel | Qimo Space Design | World Design Awards 2025
Qimo Space Design: Winner of World Design Awards 2025. Jinfo Mountain is located in Nanchuan District, Chongqing City. Jinfo Mountain, also known as Jinshan or Jiudi Mountain in ancient times, is the main peak of the Dalou Mountains. Formed 260 million years ago, it has three wonders: karst world natural heritage, biodiversity, and Buddhist culture. In 2013, it was approved as a 5A national level scenic spot, consisting of 108 peaks of Jinfo, Qingba, and Baizhi mountains, with a total area of 1300 square kilometers. More than 700 years ago, Marco Polo recorded in his travelogue of Jinfo Mountain that it was majestic, strange, dangerous, and complex, with mountains, waters, forests, springs, and sounds and shapes all present. The Puxiang Hotel coexists with nature, with cliffs and monkeys playing among them. The winding paths lead to the depths of the valley, and the misty mountains and streams create a mysterious and tranquil Zen atmosphere.

A winding path leads to a secluded place, with deep flowers and trees in the meditation room. The mountain lights delight the birds, while the pool shadows empty the hearts of the people. Zen knows no borders, it talks about the harmony between the heart and the spirit, and the teachings of Buddhism. Puxiang Hotel adheres to the teachings of Buddhism and Taoism, treating guests with “Zen”, aiming to regulate the body and mind of tired guests, cleanse their inner turmoil, and make their thoughts calm.
We shape light and shadow, space, and matter. The hotel building takes the form of a long strip based on the surrounding environment, and is built in the form of high and low scattered fields, village houses, small bridges, and flowing water along the mountains and streams, creating a pure, peaceful, and profound spatial feeling. The green tiles and white walls, the quaint and elegant entrance first catches the eye. There are lush pine and cypress trees planted at the entrance, and the sunlight shines on the wall through the fine cracks of the leaves, swaying gracefully. The handmade matte hammer wood grain copper plates decorated everywhere bring a warm texture to clean spaces. The bathroom is wrapped in black basalt and combined with minimalist techniques and natural elements, forming a seamless connection between the floor and walls with the same color and texture, achieving ultimate unity. The overall style of the guest room area uses warm wood grain finish and warm straw paint, and the cotton and linen bedding together to create a warm and comfortable home atmosphere. Most of the space here extends to the nature in the form of terraces or courtyards. We construct a super natural landscape through a large area of french window, which connects the interior and the external environment unreservedly, blurs the boundaries, and grows naturally. With simple design techniques and dynamic spatial layout, we introduce the natural landscape, narrow the distance between people and nature, and build an artistic and free space.
The public area continues the overall fusion of Japanese Zen style and modern minimalist style, with natural light being the soul of the Japanese style. We introduce light into the interior through a hollowed out manhole in the lobby atrium, fully mobilizing sunlight and color interaction within the space. The simple spatial hierarchy creates an aesthetic appeal that belongs to modern people. Simultaneously embedding reading, exhibitions, and leisure into it to create a sense of life scenario. By resonating with the external landscape and internal space, the humanistic and artistic texture of the space is presented. Black is a deep and mysterious color that can give people a sense of stability and calmness. The exterior of the building is extensively made of black aluminum and warm colored straw paint, creating a minimalist Zen aesthetic through a simple and elegant sensory experience.
We expect to design at a human scale, with attention to detail in both interior and exterior, materials, and objects, to achieve perfection and surprise our guests. I hope every guest who comes here can shed their burdens and shackles and return to their true selves.
