Ebisu | LUSTYdesign Inc. | World Design Awards 2025

LUSTYdesign Inc.: Winner of World Design Awards 2025. This Japanese restaurant serves traditional Japanese cuisine, “washoku.” This location not only conveys Japan’s proud food culture to both foreign tourists and Japanese people, but also serves as a place to pass it on to future generations.

The concept of this project is to create a space that further highlights the world of “washoku.” Here, we offer Japanese cuisine made with seasonal ingredients from Japan’s mountains, seas, and rivers, along with carefully selected local sake. Guests can savor the world of washoku through a Japanese garden decorated with seasonal flowers and waterfalls, and an interior made with traditional Japanese materials.

This is a space enveloped in tranquility, secluded from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Japanese garden, with its stonework reminiscent of castle walls, the seasonal flowers, and the cascading waterfall, adhere to traditional styles. Traditional Japanese materials are also used throughout the interior, allowing guests to not only enjoy the washoku cuisine, but also to gain a broader and deeper understanding of traditional Japanese culture by immersing themselves in this space.

The interior makes extensive use of traditional Japanese handmade materials. Because they are handmade, each material is subtly different, stimulating curiosity.

Not only foreign tourists, but Japanese people of all ages visit this place and show an interest in traditional Japanese culture.

The limited space has been efficiently designed without waste. The interior is mainly made up of a Japanese garden, three spacious guest areas (counter seating, semi-private rooms, and private rooms), a bar corner, a back yard, and a staff room. The highlight of this space is the counter seating area facing the large windows. The space blends in with the Japanese garden outside the windows, creating a sense of openness.
