Edge Pinheiros | MCAA Arquitetos | World Design Awards 2024
MCAA Arquitetos: Winner of World Design Awards 2024. São Paulo is a metropolis recognized for its vast net of connectivity. The important avenues act as arteries connecting commercial, cultural, and residential centres, promoting integration between different parts of the city. The transportation infrastructure, which includes an extensive subway system, bus lines, and bike paths, enables citizens to move efficiently, contributing to more sustainable urban mobility. This accessibility not only enriches the daily lives of São Paulo residents but also stimulates social interaction and economic development, making the city a true hub of opportunities.
The Edge Pinheiros emerges as an innovative response to the complexity and dynamics of São Paulo’s urban environment. Located in the heart of the Pinheiros neighborhood, this development is designed to promote fluid interaction between its spaces and the vibrant life of the city. The concept is developed from this connectivity, with its facade reflecting the interweaving that the main streets of the neighborhood provide into an urban sculpture.
Its contemporary design redefines the landscape of the neighborhood with a bold proposal characterized by organic lines and volumes that challenge traditional architecture, exuding the novelty and trendiness characteristic of the area. The design was a response to a formal exploration aimed at addressing the gap between units, resulting in an exoskeleton, its shape enhanced by the contrast of the color palette used.
Edge not only respects the youthful essence of the location but also becomes a catalyst for community living in one of the city’s most complete neighborhoods. Its common areas feature full leisure options and encourage interaction through its active facade, creating spaces where residents and visitors connect organically.
The project consists of a 26-story tower, with two apartments per floor. Its curves accommodate themselves in every possible way and represent a new way of living with fluid spaces, bending towards what is modern and versatile. The units feature flexible layouts, allowing for customization depending on the user’s needs, embracing different manners of living.
Technology plays a central role in the design of Edge Pinheiros, utilizing a customized system for the construction of the double-curvature precast concrete beams (both vertical and horizontal). This manufacturing technique allows for greater design flexibility, enabling the creation of fluid, organic shapes that enhance the building’s aesthetic appeal and identity while maintaining structural integrity. Sustainability was also a key consideration in the project’s conception. The AQUA-HQE certification, which stands for “High Environmental Quality,” is an example of a certification gaining prominence in Brazil. Edge Pinheiros has achieved this certification for its energy efficiency with solar panels, reduced environmental impact, sustainable mobility, sustainable resource use, and environmental comfort (lighting, acoustics, temperature).
