FOREST | STUDIO 40 | World Design Awards 2024

STUDIO 40: Winner of World Design Awards 2024. Forest is a restaurant of modern cuisine for every day. The philosophy of the interior – nothing in the restaurant should distract from gastronomy. The interior is decorated in a modern style and natural tones. The color scheme is designed in beige and gray colors.

Description of the design task of the project. Design the interior of the restaurant for every day. To identify the advantages and hide the disadvantages of the room. The interior should be calm and stylish. The interior should not be bright. Natural motifs and materials should be present in the interior, because the name of the restaurant is “Forest”. The entrance lobby must be properly designed, because it has two entrances – to the street and to the inner gallery of the residential complex. The lighting should be soft and create the main focus on the dishes.

Large stained glass windows of the restaurant overlook the pedestrian embankment, making it part of the interior. Therefore, instead of traditional fabric curtains, light wooden shutters were used.

The restaurant has two main entrances – from the embankment and from the internal gallery of the residential complex. The rounding of some walls is dictated by functional necessity. But this limitation allowed us to harmoniously introduce rounding on many elements of the interior. A spectacular mirror at the entrance visually expands the space and allows you to immediately see the hostess stand from both entrances

The interior is made in a modern style and natural colors. The main finishing materials are wood, stone, metal and plaster. The cement-polymer floor is made using the natural terrazzo technique using local stones

The kitchen and bar countertops and window sills are made of natural stone. The use of polished metal in the furniture gives the interior a more urban feel. The table bases are star-shaped and taper towards the top, referring to the image of trees in the forest.

The main decorative accent in the interior is a botanical bas-relief made by the Ural sculptor Elsa Bashirova.

Small cylindrical pendant lamps with a narrow angle of light are used to illuminate the tables, illuminating the table and dishes, and not the floor around. The lighting design invites visitors to concentrate on gastronomy.

Engineering systems are integrated into the interior and painted in the same color as the ceiling.
