Guangzhou Bohan Architectural Design Office Co., Ltd.: Winner of International Residential Architecture Awards 2024. The project is located in the Shangpai district of Hefei, within 3 kilometers of key urban amenities, including business districts and ecological wetland parks. The site benefits from a well-established surrounding environment and holds significant potential for future development.

The master plan is designed in a southeast orientation to align with the site’s natural contours. It consists of 2 multi-story buildings, 14 high-rise residential towers, and 2-story commercial facilities positioned along the northern edge. The layout emphasizes an orderly and harmonious arrangement, creating a central landscaped courtyard and group landscapes framed by generously spaced buildings. These arrangements form a dynamic “vertical main landscape axis + horizontal secondary axis” view corridor.

Through an elevated ground-floor design, the group and central landscapes are seamlessly integrated, ensuring multi-layered visual depth and a rich landscape experience for residents. The site’s natural height difference, particularly in the northwest corner, is softened with green slopes, enhancing the visual appeal of the streetscape and creating a seamless connection with the urban context.

The project adopts a modern Chinese architectural style, drawing inspiration from Song dynasty aesthetics and the iconic architectural elements of Sanhe Ancient Town. The design is characterized by floating roofs, clean lines, and refined details, embodying an elegant simplicity and timeless oriental charm. The façades feature large expanses of ultra-clear glass paired with reflective water features, blurring the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces. This integration fosters a serene negotiation space where architecture and natural elements coexist harmoniously.

Guided by the concept of “Oriental Poetry,” the design pays homage to Huizhou’s architectural heritage. Iconic elements, such as the silhouette of the horse-head wall and intricate patterns inspired by traditional Huizhou carvings, have been abstracted and reinterpreted. These cultural motifs—depicting flowers, birds, insects, and fish—infuse the project with a distinct sense of place and cultural depth, inviting users to experience a unique blend of art and tradition. The project explores the intersection of architecture and urban life, integrating nature, art, and craftsmanship into a cohesive community. Inspired by New Chinese aesthetics, it introduces a multi-layered homecoming journey through carefully curated spatial sequences and rituals. The result is an architectural environment that transcends function, offering residents a poetic and immersive lifestyle within a rich cultural and natural context.
