Hesai Technology Exhibition Hall | INGROUP | World Design Awards 2024

INGROUP: Winner of World Design Awards 2024. The global wave of digitization is spreading worldwide, drastically changing lives. Lidar, similar to the human eye, is a sensor capable of detecting the precise location of objects, playing a pivotal role in navigating complex environments. In the modern era, lidar connects the physical world with the digital realm.

Hesai Technology (Nasdaq: HSAI) is a global leader in lidar solutions. The company’s lidar products enable a broad spectrum of applications including passenger and commercial vehicles with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), autonomous driving vehicles, and robotic applications such as last-mile delivery robots and AGVs.
INGROUP was invited to design the exhibition hall at Maxwell, Hesai’s Global R&D and Manufacturing Center.

PART.2 ABOUT THE DESIGN THINKING
Everything is undergoing transformation, and corporate exhibition halls are no exception. We require not just a beautiful exhibition hall that presents corporate information, but one that also empowers customers with an immersive, highly interactive experience through digital means. In this design, we focus on the integration of digital interaction and technological aesthetic space design, aiming to explore a new model for brand exhibition halls.

The concept of “Digital Echo”, is inspired by how Hesai’s lidar technology responds to this era of rapid change. “Digital Echo” includes two key elements within its design. The first element is how digital interaction is integrated throughout the space: multi-point and multi-mode digital interaction is incorporated throughout the exhibition hall, so that visitors can receive interactive feedback throughout each stage of the tour; Additionally we feature a large lidar model device at the center, with surrounding curves and shapes in the floor to represent “Digital Echo”, symbolizing a lidar constantly sensing its environment.

PART.3 THE SPACE DESIGN

The entire tour of the exhibition hall is connected by four sets of digital experiences.
The exhibition hall entrance faces the main entrance of the building. We placed dark color blocks that match the building’s outline at the visual terminal, and on the left side, a page-turning device can display customized welcome messages.
As the metal hatch slowly opens, you step into the point cloud tunnel. The high-reflectivity dark tunnel space envelops you, creating a stark contrast with the external environment. This serves as the starting point for an immersive transition experience for visitors.

Through lidar capture, the point cloud light matrix displays a two-dimensional image of the visitor on the left side, appearing simultaneously as they enter the exhibition hall. This symbolizes their entry into the “point cloud world”.

As you exit the tunnel, the lights gradually intensify. On the left of the exhibition hall, Hesai’s core products and historical evolution are showcased, allowing visitors to experience the company’s history and products.

The Lidar Projection Showcase is the highlight of the exhibition experience. The space is divided into dark and light sections. In the dark area, we use digital images to recreate street scenes, vividly illustrating road conditions. Laser emitters concealed within the car simulate lidars operating within intelligent vehicles. Blue beams of light scan the road scenario, capturing every surrounding detail, allowing visitors to perceive Hesai’s lidar technology.
Subsequently, a curved display wall extends across the exhibition hall, displaying nearly one thousand Hesai AT128 lidar units, each engraved with patent numbers and names. This impressive array of patents captivates visitors and connects the exhibition.

Across the patent area, a giant lidar is positioned under a curved dome, creating a strong visual focal point. Visitors can enter the area to examine the intricate details of Hesai’s Pandar128 high-performance lidar, showcasing its high-end manufacturing and innovative design. Embedded light strips on the floor enhance the space’s ambience.

When visitors finish examining the giant lidar, they are invited to play a ball-throwing game with a robotic arm. The robot is equipped with multiple Hesai QT128 sensors and an FT120 sensor to sense and predict the ball’s trajectory. The robotic arm catches the balls thrown by visitors one by one, while the screen on the left simultaneously displays the live point cloud of the participants. Through this interactive game with the robot, in addition to adding a layer of fun to the exhibition, visitors also gain a deeper understanding of the connection between lidars and human eyes.

PART.4 CONCLUSION
Based on the demands for overall spatial interaction and aesthetics, we comprehensively considered the design results after understanding interactive technology, design aesthetics, and the information the brand needs to convey. This approach ensures the coexistence of aesthetics, functionality, and technological practicality. Throughout the design and implementation process, INGROUP collaborated closely with the R&D team to overcome technical challenges together, fully integrating the digital experience into the spatial design.

The design of Hesai’s exhibition hall centers on digital technology, combining LiDAR technology with digital interaction to create a futuristic digital experience space. Point cloud elements run throughout, not only showcasing Hesai’s technological prowess but also allowing visitors to feel the warmth of LiDAR technology through interaction. This visual and sensory feast stimulates visitors’ curiosity and demonstrates Hesai’s forward-thinking and leadership. The entire space narrates the story of Hesai’s technology and offers profound insights into the integration of technology and humanity.
