Liantou Ningyue Liangyuan Nursing Community | GN Architects | World Design Awards 2024

GN Architects: Winner of World Design Awards 2024. Located in the science, education and health care section of the overall planning of Hubei Wutong Lake Smart Health City, the project is an international first-class healthy life destination that integrates healthcare, nursing community life and parent-child co-construction.

The overall planning highlights the three characteristics of “wandering”, “fun” and “vitality”. The layout adopts a dual-axis and multi-core form, and the orderly integration of commercial blocks and communities around the central sunken garden weakens the neighborhood boundaries and enhances the openness of the neighborhood and the city. For the multi-story community, the group layout emphasizes the intimate social mode of group elderly care and creates a pedestrian-friendly spatial scale. The nearly 10,000 square meters of overhead space and pedestrian corridor system on the first floor make the healthcare residential area located in the upper part and the activity area located in the lower part realize natural separation, fully encouraging the elders to roam freely in the community.

The overall service supporting functions of the community adopt a decentralized layout. Taking into account the diverse needs of the elderly in the community, it flexibly sets up cultural entertainment, exhibition reception, catering services, medical services, sports and leisure, parent-child activities and other sectors in each building supporting monomer, and is given integrated consideration along with the commercial district planning. The elderly in the community can easily reach the commercial street from within the community and fully enjoy the convenience brought by the supporting facilities. The rich supporting functions and the commercial blocks can actively encourage families to visit and provide a platform for generations to enjoy the merry living scenes.

Through the multi-level construction of indoor activity space, outdoor activity space and overhead informal social activity space, the community supporting facilities can provide diversified, active, participatory and comfortable healthy life scenes, so that people can fully experience the fun of community life. With a theme-based approach, the outdoor space of the community creates a multi-level scene integration landscape space. It regards the construction of social scenes as the core, integrates the functions of healing, gardening, sports rehabilitation and cultural exploration into the landscape system design, and combines the roof garden, the inter-story greening, and the cluster green space to create fully permeable multi-ecological vitality scenes.

Based on the living experience survey of nursing community over the years and the consideration of the changing needs of the elderly population in the future, the apartment design emphasizes the comfort of living and strengthens the creation of a sense of belonging. The activity area and sleeping area are designed with clear space definition. Taking into account the psychological needs, behavioral needs and physiological needs of the elderly, the project combines age-appropriate measures with software and hardware conditions and relies on the iterative update of smart technology products to create a safer and more comfortable living experience.
