Luneng Dalian Jinshitan Meilihui | DP Architects | World Design Awards 2025
DP Architects: Winner of World Design Awards 2025. Leveraging the expansive coastal geography of Jinshitan Golden Beach, the project is guided by the design philosophy of “Rhythm of the Sea Weaving Through the City”. Through four core strategies—Embracing the Sea, Integrating with the City, Linking Landscapes and Coexisting Harmoniously—it establishes an interconnected coastal cultural tourism landmark. The building clusters emulate the natural growth of coastal ecosystems, harmonising with their surroundings. Architectural forms draw inspiration from the ocean waves’ fluid rhythm and the organic contours of seashells, employing soft curves to dissolve boundaries between the built and natural environment.

Located in the core of Dalian Jinshitan National Tourist Resort, the site is surrounded by the sea, offering direct ocean views and proximity to popular attractions. As the most frequented coastal zone in Jinshitan, it combines striking natural geological wonders with well-established tourism infrastructure, serving as a key northern leisure destination in China. Positioning itself as a “new engine for cultural tourism and commerce” in the Bohai Rim region, the project elevates Dalian’s status as an international coastal tourism hub. The primary challenge lies in maximising limited seascape resources. Employing a “seascape penetration” strategy, the northern side features elongated curvilinear forms to extend ocean-view corridors, while the southern side arranges pearl-like buildings in staggered layouts to create transparent visual pathways that allow seascapes to filter through architectural gaps. This interplay of solid and void generates layered, dynamic coastal spaces, optimising views and crafting an open, rhythmically diverse streetscape that embodies the subtle interplay of concealment and revelation.
