Negative Space of Ink | Attentive Design | International Residential Architecture Awards 2025
Attentive Design: Winner of International Residential Architecture Awards 2025. This project is a definitive expression of Modern Oriental Elegance, thoughtfully curated to refine and elevate the inherent tranquility and depth of Eastern aesthetics within a contemporary residential context. It achieves a seamless fusion of timeless artistic conception and modern functionality.

The design innovatively employs an artful approach to negative space (liú bái) and a sophisticated, restrained color palette—featuring warm timber tones, elegant off-whites, and profound black-browns—to cultivate a soothing, serene, and distinctly Zen atmosphere. We boldly utilize textured artistic coatings, such as abstract ink-wash on a subtle golden base, to deconstruct traditional landscape (shān shuǐ) imagery through a contemporary lens. This emphasis is placed on the expression of spirit and essence (shén yùn), transcending strict classical form. This distinctive background treatment serves as the visual anchor, powerfully imbuing the space with an Oriental humanistic spirit.
