Penthouse of View | Superorganism Architects | International Residential Architecture Awards 2025

Superorganism Architects: Winner of International Residential Architecture Awards 2025. Anchored in Guangzhou’s prestigious Pearl River New Town CBD, Penthouse of View emerges as an architectural ode to multigenerational harmony. Designed for a cosmopolitan couple with discerning taste, this elevated residence masterfully orchestrates art, social sophistication, and domestic intimacy. The guiding principle of “Equilibrium” manifests through a contemporary design vocabulary that redefines vertical living, where panoramic views of the Liede Bridge and urban skyline become intrinsic spatial elements, crafting a riverside sanctuary that marries ceremonial grandeur with effortless functionality.

Design Strategy: Vertical Harmony

The tripartite composition (1,200㎡) thoughtfully balances public and private realms. The ground floor unfolds as a social epicenter, anchored by a soaring double-height living space, a seamless Chinese-Western culinary pavilion, and an art-infused gallery corridor. Ascending to the second level reveals intimate retreats – a family lounge and bespoke bedrooms tailored to generational needs. The uppermost level transforms domestic efficiency into an art form, with meticulously organized utility spaces and intelligent storage solutions that elevate daily rituals.

A sculptural spiral staircase in ebonized oak and Calacatta marble serves as both vertical artery and artistic centerpiece – a “temporal vessel” embodying familial continuity. Material selections form the architectural lexicon: Ceppo di Gré limestone and Prada Green marble converse with brushed oak and patinated metal, while flush baseboard detailing marries aesthetic purity with pragmatic maintenance. Venetian glass tessera and hand-troweled plaster create luminous textures. Italian craftsmanship reaches its zenith through Boffi’s minimalist cabinetry and Molteni&C’s precision-crafted wardrobes, epitomizing the symbiosis of form and function.

Human-centric design permeates every detail: accessibility-enhanced bathrooms for elders, adaptable modular systems for growing children, and intuitive smart home technologies that respond to circadian rhythms – all demonstrating a nuanced understanding of intergenerational living.

Signature Moments

The 6-meter cathedral-like living space and L-shaped art promenade fluidly connect enological and musical pursuits, framed by 270° glazing that transforms the river panorama into a living canvas, creating an immersive social theater.

The spiral staircase, with its interplay of warm timber and cool stone, mirrors the river’s ever-changing moods, evolving into the spiritual core of family rituals.

The second-floor family lounge metamorphoses effortlessly via motorized screens and electrochromic glass, transitioning between cinematic and contemplative modes to foster generational connections.

A curated collection of twenty artworks – from Sam Friedman’s lyrical abstractions to Louis Vuitton’s Diamond Screen and Takashi Murakami’s whimsical sculptures – transforms the residence into a “living gallery”.

Technology remains elegantly unobtrusive: mirror-polished smart elevators, discreetly retractable audio-visual systems, and Gaggenau’s culinary innovations elevate living experiences while preserving visual serenity.

Design Philosophy

Penthouse of View redefines contemporary luxury through its eloquent balance of architectural discipline and artistic spontaneity. The permanent framework – a “skeleton” of natural materials and intelligent systems – dialogues with the evolving “lifeblood” of curated furnishings and art. This harmonious duality creates a “post-iconic” domestic narrative where river vistas dance with hearthside warmth, tradition converses with innovation, culminating in a timeless vessel for four generations of shared memories.
