Z/G Times Plaza | Infinite Architects | World Design Awards 2024
Infinite Architects: Winner of World Design Awards 2024. The project is located on Liuxian Avenue in Nanshan District, Shenzhen, adjacent to the Dasha River Ecological Corridor and surrounded by picturesque mountains and waters. Its design seamlessly integrates into Shenzhen’s urban fabric, embracing the local culture of Xili and the surrounding landscape. As a boutique complex that encompasses business, culture, office, and hotel facilities, Z/G Times Plaza stands as a distinctive landmark of charm and value.
The design concept is inspired by an ancient verse—”A mountain needn’t be high; it is famous as long as there is a deity on it. Connecting the twin towers, a large podium elevated above the street creates a seamless spatial experience upon entry. Street-facing windows reveal vibrant business areas and internal activities, exuding a sense of liveliness. The podium’s facade design, inspired by water elements, establishes a close relationship with the nearby Xili Reservoir. Through parametric design, the curtain wall is segmented into multiple smaller units, with a parallelogram-shaped steel skeleton suspended between floors serving as the canvas. This allows the curtain wall panels to form ripple-like undulating patterns through meticulous installation and weaving. The interplay of glass and aluminum paneling creates a dynamic visual effect, echoing the mountain and water landscape of Xili and perfectly encapsulating the design theme.
The two crystalline towers of Z/G Times Plaza rise like mountain peaks into the sky, while the ground-floor podium’s wavy pattern evokes water fluidity. This striking urban complex gleams like a diamond against Xili’s night skyline and establishes itself as a new landmark along the Dasha River Innovation Corridor. Through a harmonious blend of nature and modernity, it offers a fresh spatial experience and visual delight, poised to make a distinct impression on the international stage.
A lake needn’t be deep; it has supernatural power as long as there is a dragon in it.” Variations in the curtain wall grilles impart a diamond-like motif to the towers’ facades. From inside, expansive glass curtain walls offer breathtaking views of Shenzhen Bay, the Dasha River Ecological Corridor, and the enchanting lakes and mountains of Xili. The podium’s diamond-like form echoes the Xili mountains, symbolizing a rock rising from the earth—a powerful metaphor for the client’s vision for future growth.
