Gentle Rhyme | NANYI DESIGN INTERIOR DESIGN | World Design Awards 2024
NANYI DESIGN INTERIOR DESIGN: Winner of World Design Awards 2024. The couple has different style preferences. The host prefers stability, stone, and dark colors, while the hostess seeks luxury and a bright atmosphere. To satisfy both preferences, the designer took dark marble and wood veneer to satisfy the host’s taste, while using light gray and gray veneer to fulfill the hostess’s desire for brightness. The main light is the focal point of the space, which has a luxurious look. Considering the two children, the curved design trims the whole space, showing both delicate and lively.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION/DIFFERENTIATION | First, the large area of different shades of gray, special paint, and stone, create a calm and harmonious look. The cleverness of the material combination is that it stabilizes the overall ambiance, accents sunlight, and boundless views, and gives a depth of field and texture to the space. The wood veneer shows a soft warmth, while the stainless steel door of the shoe cabinet in the entrance brings a shadow interaction to those who enter the space, creating a warm and unique atmosphere. Secondly, the curved elements show the ingenuity of the design. The curved storage compartment helps to visually add layers to the space while providing practicality at the same time. The curved shape of the bar table echoes the compartment and takes into account the safety of the two sons so that they can avoid collisions and injuries while playing. This idea not only enhances the design of the space but also considers the practicality and safety needs, showing meticulous consideration and the designer’s unique sense of aesthetics. |
PRODUCTION OR REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY (AND MATERIALS) | The social area is dominated by luxury imagery. Except for the wood veneer, all the other materials emphasize the brightness. Gray marble highlights the noble taste of the space with its calm color tone, while artistic paint gives texture to the walls. The project takes brightness as the basis of material matching, satisfying the hostess’s pursuit of luxury and expressing art and taste in the interior. |
SPECIFICATIONS / DIMENSIONS / PACKAGE / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES | The site is a pre-sale apartment with four rooms, a living room, a dining room, and two bathrooms. The original area is 122 square meters, and the actual area is expanded to 151 square meters. The open-plan social area is bordered by ceiling beams. The glass partition of the study room and the kitchen island for light meals and working demonstrate flexibility and practicality. To add visual dimension, the corners are rounded to make the interior open and warm. |
CHALLENGE | There was the challenge of a low beam over the sofa. The designer took an open plan and installed a glass partition to minimize the sense of oppression in the space. The installation of a glass partition on the beam above the sofa made the space flow smoothly. At the same time, the designer had to present a high-quality design within a limited budget, so the choice of materials and materials showed creativity and flexibility. |
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION/FUNCTION | Each son has his own room, solving the problem of overcrowding in the shared space and enabling them to take the responsibility of organizing their rooms. The tall bar satisfies the hostess’s desire for elegance, making it an ideal place for her to enjoy wine and coffee. In response to the host’s preference, the designer utilized marble in the most reasonable budget to achieve a balance between aesthetics and cost. In terms of layout, the glass behind the sofa breaks the visual constraints and creates a bright atmosphere for family members to enjoy spending time together. The large storage room provides great convenience, solving the storage needs and the hostess’s worries. |
FORM | The couple’s different tastes harmonize in the space. It is a conversation that combines dark colors with a sense of luxury. The host seeks stability and grandeur, and his mood seems to settle with the deep stone. At night, the texture of stone pervades every corner of the space. Dark marble and wood veneer are the symbols of the man’s taste, subtle yet powerful. The hostess seeks luxury and brightness. Light grey and ash veneer are her base tone as if sunlight is shining through the curtains, brightening up the space in no time. The children’s liveliness is like a highlight in the painting. The designer took curved shapes, like drawing soft lines in a painting, and further realized the practicality. The curved storage compartment adds a sense of dimension to the space and fulfills the need for storage. The soft curve of the bar is also for the safety of the children. |
RESEARCH ABSTRACT | “Soft” is the client’s pursuit of luxury and a bright atmosphere, while “Rhyme” emphasizes the harmony between husband and wife and the vitality of the family. The host is looking for stability and elegance and prefers dark stone, while the hostess is obsessed with luxury and a bright atmosphere. The designer combined dark marble and wood veneer to satisfy the man’s taste, and light gray and gray veneer to realize the woman’s pursuit of brightness. The luxurious light of the main light becomes the focal point, and then the curved and smooth lines make a perfect combination of sophistication and liveliness. The ceiling beams serve as the boundary of the area. The curved shape diversifies the visual effect and takes care of children’s safety. The glass partition reduces the sense of compression while showing ingenuity and delicacy. The well-designed storage room is practical and perfectly echoes the hostess’s pursuit of luxury. Balancing the couple’s preferences, the designer created a gem-like home. |
IMPACT /SUSTAINABILITY | Benjamin Moore paint has excellent resistance to staining and a long service life, thus reducing maintenance costs. The paint is effective in inhibiting the release of formaldehyde and VOCs in the air, and excels in environmental protection and economy, providing a healthier, greener living experience. The designer insisted on installing a hanging concealed dehumidifier that can control indoor humidity and temperature, and inhibit the release of formaldehyde. The dehumidifier equipped with an ERV function can realize the exchange of indoor and outdoor air, and work as an air purifier, which has an excellent effect on filtering and eliminating indoor air pollution. The apartment is like having a dedicated “breathing” system, providing a comfortable and healthy life. |
