Hongzhou Guishan Island Dolphin Cove Cultural and Tourism Resort Hotel | HZS | World Design Awards 2024

HZS: Winner of World Design Awards 2024. The Guishan Island in Zhuhai City, where the project is located, is one of the famous tourist resorts in China. The island features unique island ecological resources with clear sea water, countless green trees, rare rocks, fresh air and pleasant scenery. The project plot is adjacent to the Dolphin Bay Beach on Guishan Island, enjoying superior natural landscape resources and excellent landscape vision. Therefore, the facade of the hotel should reflect the relaxed and cozy holiday feeling of the project and the natural and unique place spirit of the island. The project strives to create a landmark resort hotel for Guishan Island and provide a pristine natural luxury resort space.

The erosion of the waves resulted in the formation of the rounded shape of the rocks on Guishan Island. The overall facade of the project adopts a modern and simple facade modeling method to highlight the sculptural sense of the building. Different from the conventional right-angle box construction method, the balcony and the top of the building extract the arc modeling element of the reef to echo the rough and powerful rounded reef of Guishan Island, so as to strengthen the local property of the building. The balconies of the hotel rooms use the angled moldings to highlight the lively, relaxed and romantic sense of the building.

The “1 balcony” module means that 1 guest room balcony corresponds to 1 building facade opening, which is the conventional facade treatment method of centralized hotels. The project reorganizes the relationship between the plane space and the volume and adopts the module of “2+1” (that is, the mode of “2 balconies share 1 facade opening +1 balcony uses another 1 facade opening”), and forms a unique facade modeling language through split-level, fully reflecting the beauty of architectural rhythm.

A semi-circular planting pool is placed between the modular facades to enrich the facades, while the added vertical greening system enhances the privacy between the rooms and gives the building a natural and wild luxury character.

The interface between the restaurant and the swimming pool on the second floor adopts a large area of floor-to-ceiling glass doors and windows to increase the ventilation and light transmission of the restaurant and blur the boundary between indoor and outdoor, so that the outdoor swimming pool and the indoor restaurant can interact.

The repeated erosion and weathering of sea waves resulted in the formation of rich rock landforms on Guishan Island. In situ symbiosis, rock texture, rough texture is the main direction of our selection of building materials. We emphasize the choice of building materials and the integration of colors with the site environment, the pursuit of primitive and rustic life and vacation, try to highlight the wild and luxurious style, and strengthen the interaction between the architectural environment and the natural environment.
