GOLDEN ISLAND | HZS | International Residential Architecture Awards 2024

HZS: Winner of International Residential Architecture Awards 2024. The GOLDEN ISLAND is not only a residential area, but also a living art that combines profound history and culture with modern living concepts. Located in the city of Shangqiu with a history of 5,000 years, the project pays tribute to the “round outside and square inside” layout of the ancient city with a unique design concept, and integrates the philosophy of “harmony between nature and man” into modern architecture.

Creating an ecological, equal, healthy and harmonious living environment is the core concept of the project. GOLDEN ISLAND puts forward a new living mode, specifically, it takes “island dwelling” as the design concept, and creates the space feeling of living in the forest and on the island by establishing the water ecosystem around the building, giving the house a vivid spirit. Metasequoia is used to separate the city from the residence, allowing the area to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and providing a slow living experience. This kind of design reflects respect to nature and is a modern interpretation of traditional culture. The buildings and ecological water system make up a charming landscape, which can be seen from different rooms, and the breeze and the sound of nature make people deeply intoxicated.

The GOLDEN ISLAND adopts the architectural design of the fourth generation residence, and the sky courtyard design method creates a living space without parapets, columns, and covered with soil and green plants. The design offers a two-story, six-meter-high living space, and introduces the concepts of “vertical forest” and “garden city” into the residence area, providing residents with a living environment that is close to nature, ecological and low-carbon.

The design of the project is inspired by the “harmony between man and nature” philosophy of the ancient city Shangqiu, and the modern architectural language translates this concept into a space experience that can be perceived by the occupants. The facade uses simple modern lines and warm colors to create a warm and elegant living atmosphere. The GOLDEN ISLAND also makes clever use of light and shadow in architectural design. The dappled water, towering metasequoia forest and beige building facade create a rich light and shadow effect in the sunlight. When the sun rises or sets, the sun shines through the cracks of the building on the walls, forming a charming light and shadow painting. This change of light and shadow beautifies the appearance of the building and adds an artistic enjoyment to the daily life of the residents.
