SHANGHAI ZF ARCHITECTS: Runner-Up of World Design Awards 2024. Located in the Dajiangdong Industrial Cluster of Qiantang New District in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, the Hangzhou Sunac City project is a multi-functional, fine-grained community living project. Designed by China Housing Architecture, the design team incorporated the urban design elements based on the concept of Sunac’s heart-centered community to expand the scope of the heart-centered city, which coincides with the “future community” model promoted by Zhejiang Province.

The buildings in the residential area fall gradually from east to west. The large high-rise buildings are laid out in groups with point symmetry, the small high-rise and townhouse buildings are laid out in short panels, and the villas are laid out in groups and retreat along the river. The overall architectural space is spacious and orderly, rich in changes, and the city skyline is rich and dynamic.

The boundary is the outline of the community, and the fence is the derivation of the outline. The design defines the boundary without limiting it, and appropriately gives way at important node spaces by combining solid fences, semi-permeable fences, and landscape raised fences of different styles to form focused spaces and provide more serviceable functional spaces.

The façade design, through the strong contrast of different materials, creates a rich variation of shapes between the building blocks, expressing the flowing characteristics of architecture and life, so that the buildings within the plot can adapt to the demands of the overall surrounding environment without affecting the comfort of internal use. The architecture has become a harmonious part of the urban fabric, and also a highlight of the area with its overall shape that balances heaviness and beauty. The stylized creation of the residential facade is realized in the main orientation of the city and landscape, highlighting the architectural quality of the city.
