Infinite Horizons | HZS | International Residential Architecture Awards 2025

HZS: Winner of International Residential Architecture Awards 2025. An innovative “fourth-generation residence” that embodies the future vision of human habitation has emerged at the prime intersection of Yecheng Road and Pingliang Street in Jianye District, Nanjing. This location has already become a symbol of high-end urban living.

The project involves 10 residential buildings of 23 to 24 floors, with a total of over 400 units, and the unit sizes range from 200 square meters to 385 square meters, precisely targeting the city’s elite population. In terms of planning and design, the designers adhere to the concept of an ecological community and meticulously create a grand enclosed garden. The central garden, with an area of 12,800 square meters and a green coverage rate of 36.5%, unfolds magnificently, creating a green space that makes people feel like being in nature. The buildings adopt a staggered layout, the south-facing windows are skillfully offset from the normal to ensure that each household can enjoy natural ventilation, a wide view and sufficient sunlight. Scientific research results show that natural light can boost mood, reduce depression and anxiety, and have a positive impact on mental health, while a wide view can relieve stress and bring about a sense of relaxation and calmness. Therefore, this design demonstrates a deep concern for the physical and mental health of the occupants.

As for space design, architects draw inspiration from global high-end samples to deeply explore the aesthetic core of Nanjing, which was the capital city of six dynasties. They innovatively propose a 6.6-meter high-ceiling design language for the living room, giving vitality to the sky villa. This spatial scale has broken free from the constraints of Nanjing’s traditional residential patterns and led the city’s residential architecture to a new height. The positioning of sky villa” is a precise response to the supreme residential belief of Chinese people, which is to “have a garden in front and an open space behind”, and to “be able to see both the sky and the land while having a courtyard”.

The ingenious design of the building facade is inspired by the buttonwood tree, which is the city tree of Nanjing. This design creates a unique and vibrant visual effect by simulating the interlaced pattern of the leaf veins and branches of the buttonwood tree. As a result, the architectural complex stands out from the urban skyline and becomes a distinctive landmark. In terms of material selection, we choose high-quality stone, exquisite aluminum plates and large areas of glass. The stone column type showcases natural textures and unique colors, the aluminum plate columns that have undergone surface treatment can present a wide range of colors and textures, and the modern glass expands the spatial vision. The organic combination of these three elements can meet the demands of high-quality design and showcase the elegance and luxury of the buildings.

The project actively implements green concepts when it comes to sustainable development. The building uses highly efficient and energy-saving insulation materials to reduce energy consumption, the rainwater collection system is used for greening irrigation to achieve the recycling of water resources, while solar photovoltaic panels provide part of the electricity for the public areas to reduce reliance on traditional energy sources. We implement these measures and strive to create an environmentally friendly, energy-efficient and comfortable living environment to contribute to the sustainable development of the city.
