Jiu Long Exhibition Hall, Excellence Group | Poetic Space | World Design Awards 2024
Poetic Space: Winner of World Design Awards 2024. In a spiritual city, individuals become the benchmark by which all things are measured. The Jiu Long Exhibition Hall is nestled in Nanshan, Shenzhen, aiming to add value to the affluent living circle of the Nanshan Super Peninsula. Situated in a bustling area, the project serves as the hub for city resources, adjacent to the 1700-year-old Nantou Ancient City, weaving together the most intriguing urban features. In terms of design, modern techniques are employed, embodying the concept of hotel-style living with integrated soft and hard furnishings to cater to the demands of efficient urban living, creating a high-level residential place where prosperity and warmth coexist. The design incorporates Oriental elegance, contemporary etiquette, and harmonious integration with nature, crafting a spiritual space that beckons exploration. The ultimate vision of the design is to transform this contemporary poetic hotel-style living into a sustainable lifestyle and to mold it into a monument of national, poetic, and personal spirit.
The design shows how nature’s essence gracefully interweaves into the indoor ambiance, evoking a sense of “Oriental hospitality”. At the garage entrance, natural light is introduced through skylights, illuminating a tranquil scene adorned with a tree pavilion. This serene setting is complemented by the interplay of light and shadow with latticework, instilling a refined Oriental hospitality.
Within the lobby, Windsor white-gray stone walls are adopted, soaring to majestic heights of eight meters, orchestrating an interplay of light and shadow that whispers tales of depth and intricate details. A distinctive double-platform design extending outward, crafted with architectural ingenuity, echoes the Perspective Technique of Guo Xi from the Northern Song Dynasty, inviting guests to explore multi-dimensional vistas, from upward, and downward to horizontal perspectives. In the sand table area, superfluous embellishments yield to a serene simplicity, emphasizing the sand table’s allure and the art staircase’s grace. Ascending the art staircase, swathed in hues of elegant white, one is transported to a realm where visual openness intertwines seamlessly with the stillness of water stones and the warmth of ground lights, evoking visions of mountains and lakes.
The consulting space, built with meticulous precision, features a high-cost six-pillar load-bearing design, fostering a sense of balanced symmetry. In this space, the ceiling utilizes the void at the top, gracefully curved in arched formations, creating ripples reminiscent of swirling clouds. Complemented by the semi-translucent waterfall wall, it creates an ambiance as pure and constant as the moon.
The corridor linking the consulting area, signing room, VIP room, and functional area is interconnected in a stepwise manner, ingeniously utilizing the gradually ascending ground height and adopting a triple-entry axial symmetric layout, showcasing the dignified etiquette of the Orient.
Soft furnishings in the space engage in a dialogue between tradition and modernity, weaving the space narrative. Stone tea tables, meticulously polished to reveal their natural beauty, exude a jade-like luster. A luminous long stone countertop, seamlessly juxtaposed with cosmic black stone, embodies a harmonious blend of elegance and gilded charm. Dragon scale art installation, dynamically responding to the movements of people, gliding through the air like a gentle whisper. Paired with vintage cabinets sourced from antique markets, and a 3.5-meter bar counter crafted from bronze, alongside the delicate beauty of azalea flower arrangements capturing the essence of Shenzhen, these elements weave a tapestry of emotions from bygone eras and the present, resonating with the enduring echoes of urban transformation.
