JZFZ Architectural Design Co. Ltd: Winner of World Design Awards 2024. Adhering to the design concept of respecting nature and hiding in nature, the project located in the quiet Jiuhua Mountain, away from the hustle and bustle, provides a design that fits the natural mountain terrain, retains and makes full use of the landscape resource elements within the site to achieve a dialogue with the mountains, rocks, streams, forests, and thus realize the distinctive functional group division. The planning takes into account the cluster and dispersed regional groups, and strives to balance the number of rooms with the spatial density and quality.

The design creates a series of ritualistic reception experiences, centralized public areas, weakened service areas with small volumes scattered in the mountains, and a room system themed on zen house, stream house, layering house and mountain house. The visual continuity of the whole environment is emphasized, and the relationship between seeing and being seen is also cleverly and appropriately handled between buildings. In terms of architectural design, the simple and powerful modern approach and natural materials such as concrete and wood make the project more in tune with the surrounding environment. It is not just about the construction of a hotel, it also conveys emotions and shapes a beautiful way of life and life faith to pay tribute to Jiuhua Mountain, nature and life.

Surrounded by mountains, the site is blessed with natural views that create a ceremonial arrival experience. The hidden winding mountain road leads to the hotel’s mountain gate, drop-off area, reception lobby and the second lobby. Along the way, people can enjoy the spatial experience and viewing experience of the reception sequence with different temperament and ever-changing landscape. Like a viewfinder, the reception hall introduces continuous mountains, green trees, daylight and stars of the night into the room, so that the experiencers can quietly perceive the passage of time and the changes of light and shadow here.

The design creates a large area of water that reflects the surrounding mountains and the sky, making the atmosphere of the hotel more peaceful and tranquil. The all-day restaurant is located here, where people can enjoy breakfast while watching the sunrise and dinner while watching the sunset. A group of settlements formed by small volume buildings decentralize the public areas of weakened services, and small buildings with their own characteristics scattered in the mountains and forests. The outdoor fitness area is integrated with nature, and people can exercise in the landscape and enjoy the starry view at night. Built on the site of the original canal, the library looks like it is floating in nature, with its spectacular views of the sunset, distant mountains, and metasequoia forest, offering an ideal place for reading.
