NanJing Vanke DuHui MuYu | RUF Architects | International Residential Architecture Awards 2024
RUF Architects: Winner of International Residential Architecture Awards 2024. The project is located in the southern Lishui District, Nanjing, with a certain collection of supporting resources such as transportation, education, medical care and commerce, which is a livable area full of development potential. The site is square and regular, the surrounding plots are mostly high-density high-rise residential buildings, forming a dense “urban barrier”, so that the environment of the site is noisy and There are no more urban landscape resources available. As a result, architects shifted the design direction to create an inward autonomous space.

Both the homogeneous determinant layout and the enclosure layout can meet the economic and technical indexes of the project. Architects also hope to achieve the “homogeneity” of internal landscape resources, so that more buildings can obtain better economic value, and residents can have a better living experience. Considering the convenience of access, the direct access to the residential area is designed, and the internal pedestrian entrance is combined with the express station. From dropping off guests to entering the community, it is no longer just a simple roadside stop, but a “hotel-like” ritual experience. On the two-stage tour line, the functional nodes of the community are integrated into it and the various possibilities of life are expanded.
The overall volumes of residential buildings are simple and uniform, the horizontal lines are parallel and extended, the vertical insert is hard and clear. The form language of “facade” is used to resolve the uneven volume relationship of the facade. Thus, a smooth and transparent public building surface is constructed, which presents the surface of a new generation within urban architectural iterations.
In order to simplify the process, the facade is not used for EPS. The standard section of the building does not adopt small concave and convex, neither decorative molding. It only relies on fine split to control the elevation level, and the important elements of the facade and the local top line are cast-in-place, which simplifies the construction, reduces the cost, and ensures the completion effect.
The project presents a low saturation color mix. The color of the two main materials is 5 degrees gray than the conventional color. The saturation is unified and reduced, which provides a comfortable and atmospheric visual experience for the building and eliminates the detail gaps brought by strong contrast. Light gray imitation stone paint embedded in the warm color of coffee, through the details to make the building more warm and approachable in color.
