Stone Rhyme | MKYdesign | International Residential Architecture Awards 2024
MKYdesign: Winner of International Residential Architecture Awards 2024. In response to the client’s request, this interior design project is dedicated to deconstructing and reshaping the oppression caused by the high ceiling in the living room. In particular, the removal of a huge false beam that was over-decorated restored the sense of expansiveness of the space. The project emphasizes maximizing natural light. The design team enlarged windows to ensure openness and brightness. In terms of details, to satisfy the client’s pursuit of high- quality life, the team installed an induction hub in the kitchen and placed a dressing table in the master bedroom to enhance practicality and aesthetics. Finally, a dedicated cabinet showcasing Kubrick Bears embellished the family’s cultural ambiance.

Stone Aesthetics – The uniqueness of this project lies in the revitalization of the high ceiling and the use of subtle and unique decoration techniques, such as hidden beams, beams, and columns covered by the TV wall in the living room to embellish the space. The marble pattern is matched with the
corresponding wall behind the sofa, while the wall next to the staircase is covered with wavy panels to trim the beams and columns. The ceiling, floor, and walls are covered with marbles of different colors and patterns. The team precisely aligned the veins so that a sense of fluidity and shimmer filled the room. Under the sunlight, the interior is filled with the endless beauty of nature.Color Balance – There are a lot of stone patterns in the social and private areas. The designers arranged the color scheme meticulously. In the open social area, warm neutral colors make the spaciousness unobstructed and warm. In the private area, cool neutrals are preferred for meditation. Wooden panels and grilles in the details weaken the rigidity of the stone.
The designers used marble and solid wood veneer combined with bright natural lighting from large floor-to-ceiling windows to shape a spacious and vibrant image. The client’s distinctive taste in marble is fully realized. From the floor to the walls and every detail, the materials match the marble achieving consistency and elegance.
“Explore the art of living and the harmony of nature in every contour of the stone pattern.” In the space decorated with stone, each piece of stone collage embellishment is just like nature’s exquisite painting showing the high quality of life. The designers skillfully took the natural texture of the stone to create a harmonious, stable, and cozy space, which makes people feel like they are in the quiet mountains. The high ceiling and large glass doors and windows bring in bright natural light, weakening the boundaries between the interior and exterior. The vastness of nature and the coziness of the home are blended in this home. The elegant stone pattern and large glass windows emphasize the wind, light, and human activities. There is a dynamic tension in the space. The light along the stone creates a free and spontaneous life for the residents. Every detail invites residents to discover and experience the aesthetic charm and poetic image of life in their daily lives.
The site is a single-family house. The name “Stone Rhyme ” comes from the large amount of exquisite stone. Based on the client’s preference and desire for stone, the design team applied a subtle and unique design to the ceiling, floor, and walls. By hiding the structure of the beams and covering the spotlight with the stone parquet, the team created an aesthetic that surrounds and flows. The wavy design under the staircase modifies the beams, further emphasizing the depth of the field. Under the natural light, the space seems to be filled with the flickering sense of light and shadow, showing the endless beauty of nature. In the open social area, warm neutral colors make the spaciousness unobstructed and warm. In the private area, cool neutrals are preferred for meditation. Wooden panels and grilles in the details weaken the rigidity of the stone. In terms of details, to satisfy the client’s pursuit of high-quality life, the team installed an induction hub in the kitchen and placed a dressing table in the master bedroom to enhance practicality and aesthetics. Finally, a dedicated cabinet showcasing Kubrick Bears embellished the family’s cultural ambiance.
In terms of sustainability, the project is centered on valuing and recycling resources. The designers kept marble flooring to minimize the consumption of renovation resources as well as to showcase the classic aesthetics. In addition, the use of recycled materials demonstrates the designers’ commitment to environmental protection and the efficient use of resources. To maximize the site’s lighting and ventilation, the designers did not alter the original structure too much to ensure the experience of the occupants and to show respect for the building and its surroundings. The ceiling-mounted air-conditioning system satisfies the comfort needs of modern living while balancing aesthetics and functionality. Careful attention to detail has enabled the project to realize an aesthetically pleasing, functional living space in harmony with nature.
