Xiamen Chuanmu Landscape Engineering Co.: Winner of World Design Awards 2024. Meng County, located in the eastern part of Shanxi Province, is situated on the west side of the Taihang Mountains, with an advantageous geographical position, and is an important gateway and transport hub of east Jin. Its location advantage is outstanding, east of Hebei Province, a number of counties and cities, west of Yangqu, south of Shouyang and the suburbs of Yangquan, north of Wutai and Dingxiang, the traffic is convenient, especially Yangquan North Station can directly reach the country’s 24 provincial capitals, and Taiyuan, Shijiazhuang, forming a ‘half-hour traffic circle’, with Beijing, Xi’an, and rapid access to achieve.

Design Concept

The project aims to carefully plan the axial landscape sequence through the spatial etiquette of traditional mansions, so that visitors can deeply feel the solemnity and courtesy of the mansion before stepping into the gate of the mansion. The landscape design is closely centred on this tone, and the majestic and elegant ceremonial space of the mansion is ingeniously constructed.

Landscape design features

Axis Landscape Sequence: Through the harmonious and unified colour palette and the simple and smooth line language, it carefully creates an entrance image of the residence that not only shows high quality but also is full of noble atmosphere. The Chinese-style corridor leads the travellers with light steps to stroll in the elegant Zen landscape with flowing water and stacked stones.

Landscape of rocks and stones: rocks and stones, as nature’s artifice, are given new life in the courtyard. They are not only the bones of the courtyard, but also the soul carrier of the multi-dimensional viewing space. In the clever layout, the rocks and the flowing water and green plants reflect each other beautifully, sketching out a poetic picture scroll as if it were made in heaven.

Poetry and elegance: the scenery in the courtyard is like an unfinished poem, with endless poetry and elegance between the lines. Every stone, every piece of flowing water seems to tell an ancient and mysterious story, which makes people intoxicated and forget to come back.

Spatial sequence design: like the rhythm in a musical movement, it is rhythmic and relaxed. The landscape design gradually unfolds a minimalist but not losing the flavour of life aesthetics scroll, so that visitors can fully feel the spatial order and aesthetic charm of the traditional mansion in the tour process.

Summary

The landscape design of the traditional residence in Meng County has successfully created a dignified and elegant residence environment through the carefully planned axial landscape sequence, the ingenious stone layout and the poetic and elegant courtyard scenery. This design not only highlights the spatial etiquette of traditional Chinese residences, but also fully demonstrates the geographical advantages and cultural heritage of Meng County as an important gateway and transport hub in eastern Jin.
