LONGFOR ORIGIN | VARCH DESIGN | World Design Awards 2021

VARCH DESIGN: Runner-Up of World Design Awards 2021. The cities and seas in the north gave architects a different kind of inspiration. We were attracted by her rough natural beauty and meticulous humanistic spirit. When we tried to find a representative language in the architectural form, a light figure floating on a heavy base, the image of the Ark of Tomorrow slowly sailing on a magnificent coastline appeared.

This case is located in Meijiang, Tianjin, at the intersection of the three major golden plates of the Aquatic Olympic Sports, Cultural Center, and Meijiang Ecological Zone, occupying the main axis of the city. The overall plan centers around the core nodes of urban transportation, integrates modern residential and commercial formats, and integrates into the TOD development model.

Buildings grow and change in the city, change the city, and are also affected by the city. We tried to use the unity and local expression of region and context to extract image vocabularies such as “ships and arks” originating from coastal cities and implant them, using “cruise ship sailing in the green valley forest sea” as the spatial clue, through The undulating curve of the facade redefines the city skyline and echoes the port culture of Tianjin’s maritime gateway.

We present a full-scale aesthetic experience by strengthening the conflict between lines and color materials. In terms of form, the upper arc of the building and the oblique angle of the lower base form a soft and tough space; in terms of material, the large-area smooth glass surface and the rough stone surface on the base form the second opposition.
