CHENYII.DESIGN STUDIO: Winner of International Residential Architecture Awards 2022. This project is a flat floor apartment, and the owner is a single white-collar woman who longs for freedom and romance. The original structure of the area is a two-bedroom space, with the living/dining room as a long hall. After studying the load-bearing structure, a large area of the original structure was transformed.
Since Luohe provides a great river view for the living room and balcony, we demolished a bedroom and combined this room and living/dining room into one, thereby increasing the natural lighting and landscape of the interior. Meanwhile, considering that the owner lives alone, usually eats at work and only cooks light meals on weekends, we have reduced the area of the kitchen and bathroom, increased the space of the public area, while one bedroom is retained. In the living room area, we abandoned the traditional layout of guests’ meeting sofas by combining carpet with seat and back cushions to more flexibly meet various living styles in different scenarios. We have also set aside a large area near the balcony to open up the space and allow more possibilities. For example, the lady can exercise, yoga, watch movies, read, and relax, so as to achieve unfettered and free quality space.
