Hills Shopping Mall by Wall Corporation | World Design Awards 2020

Wall Corporation: Winner of World Design Awards 2020. The building defines the shopping streets on each floor with the retreat of each floor. The
shopping center resembles a topographic shape with the floor area decreasing as it rises upwards. An artificial topography such as natural hills is described by these open terraces. These shopping terraces allow shopping in the open air. The gigantic roof covering all the terraces defines a semi-open social space. Africa is covered with forests. The columns
bearing the roof give people the feeling that they are entering a forest area. Rwanda is literally a thousand hill countries. Stairs located on the facade of the building add a circulation function to the building facade. Stairs on the building facade can be used to navigate between floors.

This form of circulation, which we cannot see in classical shopping centers, carries urban life to the facade of the building. The social life on the ground floor continues on the street and continues on the building facade. The new streets formed on the facade of the building constitute a factor that encourages the user to shop. Each shop opens directly to the exterior. Thanks to this design that provides direct contact with natural air, building
sustainability will be ensured without the need for mechanical air circulation systems. The semi-open area formed by the roof is a social area where the city continues. Thanks to the polycarbonate roof, sunlight is taken to the streets, and sun protection is provided.
